In this day and age, a lot of people suffer from depression due to increased pressure in school, career, and life. When stress builds, people should find ways to reduce the stress before the situation becomes worse. If the situation is left unchecked, the stress can build, and it may lead to depression. The most common forms of treatment for depression are drug treatment and psychotherapy. However, a recent report shows that people who suffer from depression may reap some benefits from an easy walk in the park.

According to a study conducted by scientists from Stanford University and the University of Michigan, there was an improved memory performance is people who suffer from depression after they had taken a walk in the park in comparison to a walk in the busy city area. This study was headed by Marc Berman, Ph.D., from Baycrest’s Rotman Research Institute in Toronto. From the onset, he had stressed that a walk in a natural environment is not a substitute for drug treatment and psychotherapy. Berman is a proponent of Attention Restoration Theory (ART), and the study reinforces some of the ideas and concepts in this cognitive science field. Attention Restoration Theory purports that people who spend some time in natural surroundings or even gazing at scenes of nature have higher levels of concentration. It’s important not to overwork the brain and these peaceful settings can help to provide some form of respite so that the person’s cognitive capabilities can be refreshed and restored.

In 2008, Berman published a research paper in Psychological Science where he studied the attention and memory of a group of healthy adults in relation to two types of walk. After the participants took a walk in nature for one hour, they displayed a 20 percent improvement in attention and memory tests in comparison to a walk in a noisy urban environment for one hour.

Using the same model, Berman conducted a more recent study to explore the possible cognitive benefits for people who are suffering from depression, and whether a walk in natural surroundings can improve their mood. Initially, the researchers were concerned that a walk in the park may even worsen the mood of those who were depressed and reduce their powers of memory. They argued that people who are suffering from depression will be filled with negative thoughts so they thought it’s quite impossible that those who are depressed would benefit from just a walk in nature.

In the study, a group of 20 people who were suffering from clinical depression were recruited in Michigan. Baseline testing was done by the participants before they began taking their one-hour walk, either in downtown Ann Arbor or the Ann Arbor Arboretum, and they were told to think about some painful personal experience. After the walk, a series of mental tests were given to the participants to measure their working or short-term memory and attention, and their mood was also assessed. The conclusion of the study showed that a walk in the park can benefit people who suffer from depression.

Years ago a trip to the dentist was a seldom occurrence and most dentists worked on repairing problems with peoples teeth rather than preventing them. There were no guidelines for how often one should visit the dentist and information on proper oral care was also hard to come by. Today however, health organisations have made a strong effort to educate the public about oral health and how important it is to keep on top of your dental care. It is strongly recommended that you visit the dentist at least twice a year for checkups and cleaning and this has remained an accepted standard for a while now.

Even if you take good care of your teeth and gums you still need to visit regularly. Your dentist checks for early signs of problems that can later be devastating if not dealt with properly. Things like cavities, gum disease and oral cancer cannot always be seen or felt immediately until they are at an advanced stage. That is why it is important to frequently receive check-ups to maintain oral health so problems can be treated at a manageable stage. Visiting the dentist twice a year works well for most people and some people can manage less frequent visits because they have less risk of cavities or gum disease. However there are certain groups of high risk people who need to ensure they have regular attention to avoid problems. These groups include those who smoke cigarettes, diabetics, and people with current gum disease, people with weak immune response to bacterial infection and people who tend to get cavities or build ups of plaque.

During your lifetime you might find you need to visit the dentist more regularly due to stress or illness and other times less so because you may be more resilient to cavities or gum disease, your dentist will advise on the best schedule for visits. To ensure that you keep good oral health it is vitally important to take care of a few oral basics. Brushing at least twice a day and especially before sleeping is imperative. Having a routine three minutes of brushing ensures your teeth are thoroughly cleaned. Choosing a toothbrush with soft round bristles will avoid injuring you gums and wearing down the hard layer of your teeth. You should also change your tooth brush every three months because worn out bristles can also injure your gums. Flossing is an excellent way to remove hard to reach places that catch food and mouth wash also help prevent cavities and plaque build-up.

As a small business owner you are facing with many difficult business decisions on a daily basis. One of the most important decisions that you have to make is finding the right dental insurance health plans for you and your employees. It is a very critical decision because it involves not just you but also your small business employee insurance coverage.

It is quite a challenge to find the right dental and health insurance for a small business entity. However there are many insurance health plans on the market that suit your business and your employees.

What are your options?

Of course we can not afford to mention literally hundreds or more different dental insurance providers here. Neverheless you have a great selection of dental insurance companies that cater to small businesses, but we are just going to mention a couple of them here.

Among the best small business dental insurance choices available to you is eHealth Insurance. They are the parent company of eHealth Insurance Services Inc., which is accepted as being the leading online source of health insurance for individuals, families and small businesses. They have the resources of research, analysis, comparison and purchase of health and insurance products that best meet your needs.

Since they are a health insurance agency and not a health insurance company, they can offer plans from multiple insurance companies in your area. They offer a broad selection of health insurance companies and plans.

They offer the fastest way to apply for health insurance since many of the plans offered can be submitted and signed electronically, eliminating the need to manually print and mail applications. This reduces average processing time significantly.

TD Bank is another great company that offers small business dental insurance. They understand that you have invested a lot into your small business and want to help give you the most benefits with your dental insurance possible.

They want to help you protect your hard work and investment and they provide small businesses with big business advantages. They already serve more than 100,000 personal, corporate, and small business customers, and this proves that they have the experience and knowledge that you are looking for.

Another point that is worth mentioning here is that it is much more affordable for small business owner to buy group dental insurance plans. It not just economic but also it makes more sense from business point of view.

Even though it is quite a daunting task to find the right health and dental plans for your small business but with the right plan and the right company you could have peace of mind.

As if anxiety problems aren’t enough, many sufferers also experience an excessive sweating condition. One of the worst side effects of anxiety and stress is sweating. Do you suffer from anxiety induced sweating problems? Do your palms become clammy and gross whenever you are feeling anxious or stressed out? If so, then you’ve probably noticed that the embarrassing sweat will make the anxiety even worse!

Is there a way for you to control both your anxiety problems and sweating?

Yes! There are some natural treatments to help you control BOTH problems!

First, you can try dealing with the anxiety itself. Here are a few tips to help you stay calm in hectic environments:

• Kava kava is a good herbal remedy for anxiety. It’s available in a variety of forms: pills, tea, tinctures, powders, etc. You shouldn’t take it every day, just once or twice a week. It will put you in a relaxed state. Kava kava is reportedly a good mood enhancer. When you are in a relaxed state, your sweat production will be decreased.

• Aromatherapy is great for dealing with stress and anxiety. Essential oils are especially effective in the treatment of anxiety. Some scents commonly used for relaxation purposes include orange blossom, chamomile, lavender, vanilla, and tea tree oil. You can take a small vial of essential oil with you everywhere you go. Inhale the scent whenever you feel upset or nervous; you will find yourself relaxing more and sweating less.

• Learn breathing techniques. Meditation isn’t just something you can do when you are alone. Many people know how to relax themselves on the spot. Whenever you start to feel anxious or stressful, take a deep breath, hold it in, and then slowly exhale. Repeat this process over and over again. Pay attention to your breathing. You can also try placing your hand over your chest. Stretch your body and stand tall as you do this breathing technique. You’ll be able to keep your stress levels AND sweat production down!

Try these techniques to reduce anxiety. If these techniques aren’t enough, you can try some additional remedies to control sweating.

• Talcum powder and baking soda are both effective against sweaty hands. Mix one or the other with water in a big bowl. Add a generous amount of baking soda or powder in the bowl and soak your hands in the mixture for fifteen minutes or so a day. Do this for a few days and you may begin to notice a difference!

• Use an antibacterial lotion or antiperspirant that contains aluminum chloride. These are available over the counter and as prescription antiperspirants. Apply it to your hands every night, and in the morning, wash your hands thoroughly to remove the residue. You will be amazed at how helpful hand antiperspirants can be!

• Vinegar is actually a very helpful antidote to sweaty palms. Before you go anywhere, soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and rub it all over your palms. Let it dry before going out the door. If the smell is too bad, run a small amount of water over your hands. You don’t want to wash all of the vinegar off, though.

• Only dry your hands with clean towels made out of cotton. Don’t use any cheap towels or cloths made out of synthetic fabrics to clean your hands. They will only leave chemicals on your hands, which will in effect cause more sweat.

It might take a combination of anxiety treatments and sweaty palm remedies to truly help you. Just know that there is help available! There are other anxiety sufferers who have to deal with sweaty palms as well.

After a day of lounging on the beach there’s nothing better than taking a power nap and heading out for a night on the town. Miami is crowded with trendy nightclubs, bars, and lounges. Unfortunately you can’t visit them all. Fortunately, you have me, the girl who can tell you were you must go when you’re in Miami. Miami has an unbelievable nightlife and these are the places that make Miami after hours alive and exciting.

  1. Lobby Lounge in downtown Miami is part of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, one of the most elegant and expensive hotels in Miami. If you can’t afford to shell out a few hundred dollars a night, you can still get the experience by visiting the Lobby Lounge. Order some of their delicious hors d’oeuvres and snazzy champagne cocktails. It’s the perfect way to start off the night…before the night gets too crazy!
  2. Brick’s Nightclub and Sky Lounge is the perfect way to see Miami. Sure you’re inside but the rooftop sky lounge has the perfect view of Miami‘s skyline. Brick’s is a typical Miami nightclub. 10,000 square feet, an outstanding lighting system, three floors, five bars, and some of the comfiest zebra print couches I have ever sat on!
  3. Churchill’s is a unique bar that brings a little bit of England into the all American town of Miami. If you are a beer fan this is the place to go. They offer over a dozen picks of your choice. This isn’t a place for all night dancing, but if you want to see a live band or play a little pool you have to go straight to Churchill’s!
  4. Nocturnal. Now here is a place to dance the night away! Nocturnal has three different themed floors, each with their own DJ and bar. This “state of the art” 20,000 square foot nightclub has a café, a dozen plasma TVs, and a rooftop dance floor complete with waterfalls and a killer view.
  5. Studio A is for those of you who love a little rock and roll. Or, for that matter a lot of rock and roll. A lot of live rock and roll! Party and dance to the live bands or sit back in a comfy chair, sip a drink, and enjoy the show. Concerts and live shows are on stage almost every night.
  6. Dave and Buster’s Miami. Like pool, arcade games, shuffleboard, darts, video games, and just plain fun? Well if you don’t, stay away from Dave and Buster’s! Make a night out of it. Start off your evening by indulging in one of Dave and Buster’s delicious steaks. Head for the bar to order one of their famous drinks and watch some football. Then let the games really begin! I could probably spend the whole day at Dave and Buster’s -a few hours never feels like enough!

It is impossible to go to Miami and not have fun. Get a tan, have a few fruity drinks, and then dance the night away in this tropical and lively city!

When you are a trucker, you often find the only place you can count on a sit-down meal is at one of the many truck stops out there. Petro has the Iron Skillet, TA has the Country Pride, Flying J has the Country Market. But the same-old, same-old leaves you longing for more every now and then.

The problem is that a big rig can be 75 feet long or longer. We can’t just pull into a Chili’s parking lot, toot our horns, and say “We’re here.” Our choices are often limited by the size of our vehicles. Over the years, though, I have found quite a few places to park my rig that make my tummy glad.

The Beef House

In Covington, Indiana, on I 74 at exit 4, there is a Pilot truck stop. Right across the street, is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. It’s called The Beef House. They are open for lunch or dinner. A good steak dinner for two will set you back about $40 or $50 depending on what you order. I go for the petite filet mignon- and I promise you, it’s worth every penny. There’s not a bit of fat on it, it’s wrapped in bacon and aged. I’ve never tried it but I imagine you could cut it with your fork, it’s so tender. They have a meat counter and you can buy from them and take it with you to grill later, too. They have a fresh salad bar that comes with your meal and wonderful soups (also included). Their service is top rate. Plenty of folks dine wearing suits and dresses, but you can wear a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt if you so choose, and you won’t feel out of place. There are two buildings- a banquet hall and the restaurant. Be sure to go to the restaurant (not the banquet hall)- it’s the building further west. They have room for several trucks to park in the gravel areas of their lot, but, for the less adventurous, you can park at the Pilot. It’s within walking distance.

Nick’s Catfish and BBQ

In Carlisle, Arkansas, on I 40 at exit 183, there is a little restaurant that doesn’t look like much on the outside. Come to think of it, it doesn’t look like much on the inside either, but what comes out of the kitchen is worth stopping for. I’ve never had the BBQ but I have friends who have ordered it and been very happy with it. The catfish is some of the best stuff I’ve ever had. It’s not a place to dine if you’re on a diet, but if you’re looking for a good meal, it’s a sure bet. They have limited truck and rv parking on their dirt lot. They are just a little ways south of I 40 on state route 13.

Spires

In Carson, California, on the 405 freeway at the Wilmington Ave exit, there is a diner with food that will rival your favorite “chain” restaurant. There is only legal parking for 2 or 3 trucks on the street (unless you’re bobtail- then you can fit in the lot). The spots are marked 1-hour truck parking and are just long enough for a big rig. I can’t even begin to delve into their menu offerings- meatloaf, pot roast, stir fry, salads… I’ve never heard of anyone being dissatisfied with their choice. The wait staff has been top notch anytime I’ve eaten there. I know of drivers’ who have parked their rigs a mile away in no parking zones and walked to Spires to get a good meal. It’s definitely worth a trip around the block to get a truck parking spot.

Casa De Fruta

Just outside of Hollister, California, on route 152 (between Gilroy and Santa Nella) thre is a diner with a twist. The food isn’t the main attraction here, though it’s a very pleasant change from a truck stop restaurant. This place is an entire casa de EVENTS- there is a wine shop and wine tastings (not before you drive, please), a sweet shop, and a fruit and nut shop. I had never stopped there other than for a quick meal or a place to sleep until recently when a friend of mine told me about the train. I had no idea there was more than fruit and food there. From the map of the place you can see they have a little train, a zoo, and a gaggle of peacocks walking around. The restaurant is 24-hours and has a variety of options. I’ve only had breakfast there, but it was very good.

Sam’s

In Fairfield, Texas, on I 45 at exit 197, there is a restaurant good enough to make Sam Houston proud. Another driver suggested dinner at Sam’s, and, to be honest, at first glance I didn’t expect much. The outside of the building looks like any truck stop along the I 45 corridor, but what’s inside those walls will surprise you. This place has a little gift shop with all kinds of cute nick-knacks to browse- though I’ve never had to wait for a table. It’s not too fancy but it’s very nice. They have a nice salad bar, fantastic catfish and great BBQ. They are located just east of I 45 and have a dirt lot for truck parking. Don’t mistake it for the truck stop on the west side of the freeway.

(903) 389-SAMS

Boomtown

(currently truck parking/truck stop is closed for construction of Cabella’s and a new truck facility)

In Verdi, Nevada, at exit 3, there is a Casino and truck stop called Boomtown. Truckers can park at the truck stop and take the free shuttle to the main casino. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, the buffet’s main attraction is the all-you-can-eat lobster. It’s not like what you might expect up in Maine, but it is a nice change from your typical truck stop fare. It will set you back $24 per person ($19.99 each if you show your Player’s Club card). The lobsters are on the small side, but it is, after all, all-you-can-eat, so who’s complaining? Other than that, it is a typical casino buffet.

(775) 345-8699

Jubitz

In Oregon on I 5 at exit 307 (don’t miss the exit because you can’t just flip around at the next exit (the two overlap and there is no ramp when you get back on the freeway) is a poorly marked truck stop called the Jubitz- follow the small signs along the route marked “Jubitz.” I wanted to stay away from truck stops, but this is one that deserves mention. The Cascade Grill restaurant inside the main building is top rate and they also have a bar that boasts live entertainment. It’s a nice change from the traditional truck stop with all the services a truck stop provides (diesel, tires, showers, laundry, etc.). Definitely worth stopping by.

(503) 283-1111 or (800) 523-1193

Other places I have had recommended to me but have not tried:

The Farmhouse

In Wendell, Idaho. The Farmhouse has truck parking available (unconfirmed), large portions, friendly service… and sure beats the regular fare at truck stops, if you know what I mean!

The Big Texan

In Amarillo, Texas. This place is known for the 72 oz steak you get free if you eat it in one hour. Other than that, I hear their “regular” steaks are out of this world.

(800) 657-7177

Rainbow Casino Steak House

In Wendover, Nevada. Reservations are recommended. There is plenty of truck parking and a free shuttle (although, the casino is right across the street and safe to walk to). I have heard that their filet mignon and jumbo prawns combo is better than hitting a jackpot.

You've been listening for years that you have to plan for your retirement. Your parents, your children, your financial planner, and even your boss have been telling you to make sure you take the time to plan for all temporaryities so you can thoroughly enjoy your golden years. But if you are one of those people who thinks planning is a waste of time and would much rather enjoy a retirement that is full of unpleasant surprises, then here are 9 ways in which you can sabotage your retirement.

Do not Save Enough Money – This, by far, is the easiest way to make sure your retirement is nice and rough. Just do not save enough money. Ignore the statistics that say it is highly likely that you may live to be a hundred and there before should plan accordingly. Spend all of your money now so that you will only have one good year to rest after retirement before you will have to get a part time job at the local thrift store.

Neglect Your Health – Good mental and physical health is essential if you want to reap the most enjoyment out of your retirement. Therefore, eating unhealthy foods and maintaining a sedentary lifestyle is the perfect recipe for a retirement filled with aches, pains, loss of mobility, and degenerative brain diseases.

Do not Buy Enough Health Insurance – When you retire, you'll probably become eligible for Medicare. But Medicare does not pay for everything. You will need to purchase supplement insurance that will help you pay for deductibles, coinsurance, copayments, eye glasses, dental care, hearing aids, and medication. But if you would rather all that come out of your non-existing savings then do not bother shopping around for supplementary insurance designed for Medicare recipients.

Forget About Your Social Life – If you happen to save enough money where you will not have to worry about working during your retirement years, you can still sabotage your retirement by forgetting to develop friendships and other interests outside of your work life. That will ensure that you have absolutely nothing to look forward to except reruns of The Price is Right.

Retire Early – An unexpected way you can ruin your retirement is buy retiring early. Everyone dreams of doing it and now you can while putting a dent in your social security payments at the same time. If you retire four years early at age 62 instead of age 66, you will ensure that you get 25% less than what you would have been eligible for if you had just waited four years.

Do not Buy Life Insurance – If you are married, or have a significant other, you can ruin your spouse's retirement by failing to buy life insurance. Medical bills, burial expenses, unpaid debts, and other financial obligations can wipe out any savings your spouse has if you die without adequate life insurance. You can prevent this by working with a life insurance agent who will make sure there is enough money to take care of the expenses after you are gone.

Ignore Long Term Health Care Needs – There may come a point during your retirement when you will need long term care especially if you are dealing with health challenges. Medicare, however, only pays for about three months of care in a nursing home and then you are on your own financially. Investing in long term care insurance will protect your assets and savings should your need it. But if you would rather see how much your home could get on the auction block then plan as though needing long term care will never happen to you.

Fail to Pay off Debts – This one almost guarantees that your retirement is unsuccessful. Entering retirement with unnecessary debt means you will be struggling to pay old bills as well as your current living expenses on a limited income. But do not worry, you will not be alone. There will be plenty of other retirees who also have to return to work because their retirement income does not cover the bills.

Depend Completely on One Source of Income – One way to ensure that you will spend a lot of your retirement years worrying about money is to only have one source of income funding your golden years. When you only have source of income, you put yourself at risk of complete financial ruin should anything happen that causes that source of income to dry up.

If a ruined retirement does not sound like much fun after all, then now is the time to start working on your Plan B. It's easy to get up in concern about the future but all that worrying will be for nothing if you don ' t take action. I have a family friend who worries about money all of the time. She cuts expenses but the problem with that is you can only trim so much out of your budget. Occasionally, she is going to need to take action and find a way to generate additional income so she can afford her dreams.

Starting a home based business that can be run in your spare time is an awesome way to generate a passive stream of reliable income that can help eliminate debt, generate another source of retirement income, and give you something to do with your time when you finally leave your job. That's what Steve and I are working toward. To learn about how our home business is helping us fund the retirement of our dreams, contact me or view our online business tour.

Insulin is a hormone in our body produced by the pancreas that transfers glucose from blood to the cells. When cells do not respond to insulin or the pancreas do not produce enough insulin, the condition is called diabetes. During digestion, food is converted to glucose or sugar, which in turn is converted into energy. This is carried through blood to the cells for growth and energy. It is insulin that allows the body to use the glucose. Due to diabetes, glucose is not used and excreted from the body as urine. The Body is left with no source of growth or energy and ultimately it affects your health adversely.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common and its symptoms include fatigue, thirst and appetite, weight loss or gain, dry mouth, nausea, blurred vision, yeast infections, itchy skin in the groin area and slow healing of cuts or abrasions. If you have any of these symptoms, you must visit a doctor; and he would send you for a glucose fasting test. This test needs to be done on an empty stomach and your blood is drawn to test for glucose levels. If the results of the test indicate increased glucose levels, you will be started on a diabetes treatment plan.

Diabetes if left unchecked can lead to a number of complications. Heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and nerve disease are some of the issues with diabetes patients. It could lead to loss of vision, kidney disease, limb amputation and gum diseases leading to loss of teeth.

If detected early, you can control diabetes and avoid medication. You must however, change your dietary habits and increase the amount of exercising. You must keep a check on your health with regular check-up from a doctor as well as self-assessment of glucose levels. You must also regularly get eye check-up and take dental care.
