Whenever you learn a skill, you go through 4 stages of development. Each stage involves a different state of mind. By finding the right type of teacher for each stage, you naturally move to the next level. Occasionally, you reach the point where you are highly skilled. Here is a brief description of this process:

There are two components at each level of development:

1) Competence- a measure of your knowledge and skills related to the task
2) Commitment- a measure of your motivation and confidence.

Level 1 : At this stage, you tend to have high commitment but low competence. This makes sense because you are eager to learn but do not yet have the skills. An example of this can be seen by people wanting to learn online marketing.

Level 2 : This is where many people quit because after trying to achieve a certain skill, they become discouraged. Even though they may have learned some aspects and shown some ability, their commitment is now low. Many people who want to be successful in online marketing fail during this phase.

Level 3 : If you can reach this stage, your chances of acquiring the necessary skills are more likely. Your commitment tends to be variable but you've tasted some success. You can begin to see your potential coming to the surface and this tends to spur you on.

Level 4 : You now have a high degree of competency and because of this you will tend to be more highly committed to the activity. Congratulations, you made it!

Most of us need somebody to "get us through" these development stages. Whether it's a coach, a teacher, or a mentor, having someone there can often mean the difference between success and failure. And this is a critical point, because not just anyone can get us there. Each level requires a different kind of instruction, a different type of leadership.

So what kind of leadership should you look for? Here are the best matches for each development level:

At level 1, you want to find someone who tells you what to do; you just have to follow their instructions. You do not want to challenge their guidance since you have no experience yet. Asking questions can be helpful to clarify directions, but at this point, your "trainer" is the ultimate authority. This person answers to the title, "Director".

At level 2 the kind of coaching you'll want is someone who can give you directions but also be supportive. In other words, this person will want your ideas but will still make the decisions on how to improve your skills. You'll be calling this person, "Coach".

Level 3 brings yet another shift. At this stage, the philosophy reverses from level 2. Your instructor will now make suggestions but quite, you'll be the one to make the decision. Consider this person a "supporter."

Once you've reached level 4 you begin to receive more autonomy. Your decisions about how to advance in skill level are entirely up to you. Your former "leader" is there simply to delegate, passing new information on to you so that you can make a decision on how to go forward.

Knowing how these levels operate will enable you to select the right teacher for your particular learning phase. In any job training situation, you can help your instructors help you by explaining and then asking for the kind of direction and support that is most effective at a given level.

What You Should Know About the Dental Implant Industry

Advances in dentistry within the last decade or so have led to incredible technological developments. Dental implants have become the treatment of choice to replace lost or missing teeth, and when done under proper surgical technique, success rates have surpassed 95%. When the concept of osseointegration or fusing titanium with bone was introduced to the dental community in the early 60s by an orthopedic surgeon known as PI Branemark, the application of this concept was adapted to dental use; Implementing the procedure, however, into a dental setting was seen as risky and unpredictable. Success rates at this point in time rarely approached 55-60%, and many clinicians felt that their introduction into a patient's treatment plan may be too premature for foreseeable success of a particular prosthesis. To improve success rates, alterations in the design of the dental implant surface were introduced most without sound, clinical evidence to back-up manufacturer's claims of improved success rates. Through years of empirical experimentation, a titanium dental implant was developed that looked much like that of a natural tooth root.

Some 40 years later, technology within the dental implant field has facilitated their colloquial use among general dentists and specialists. When the market for implant dentistry imploded not more than a decade ago, many implant manufacturers decided to alter the topographical surface of the implant fixture with unsubstantiated claims of improved success rates to win market share over the major implant companies that currently hold 85-95% of US dental implant sales.

Unfortunately, there is an awful amount of poorly written research that is being introduced into the dental literature with false claims of improved success rates. In many instances, implant manufacturers have made changes to the design of their implant because of improved success rates seen with a competitor implant that has the proper research and clinical documentation. With the dental implant industry growing each year, this problem will never stop to exist.

As a potential implant candidate, there are several things you should know about this industry prior to continuing with treatment:

FACT : Doctors do not need formal surgical training on humans to place dental implants.

In fact, one implant manufacturer in particular holds educational seminars for doctors wanting to place dental implants over the course of a single weekend. That's right, in just 2 days, doctors are given a surgical training certificate which states that they have formal training in surgical implant dentistry and therefore may place dental implants in a human subject. Unfortunately, the course does not train these doctors on human subjects, rather, on plastic jawbones.

FACT : The US government does not require FDA approval for a dental implant fixture to be marketed to the professional community.

The US government has a governing body that oversees biomedical devices and their potential implementation into the medical and dental community. If, for example, a dental implant meets certain criteria necessary for surgical placement into the human body based on prior submissions by other manufacturers which have tested the device, then the governing body will grant 510K clearance to the implant manufacturer. 510K clearance allows dental implant manufacturers (and other biomedical device manufacturers) to market their device without human need for prior animal or human testing! If another biomedical device has been previously introduced with similar intent, then the literature for the initial product can be used to formalize 510K clearance.

FACT : So many implants, so little time

The competition for the dental implant market is fierce, and after patents have expired on tested devices proven to be suitable for human use, some implant manufacturers will duplicate the design of these devices. Implant manufacturers seeking a spot in the competitive dental implant market will copy the design of an implant that has an expired patent, save for a minor change here and there. These implants are known as clones and are marketed to dentists at a significantly reduced fee. In most instances, these implant clones have absolutely NO clinical documentation to substantiate their manufacturer's claims. In fact, these companies use literature provided by the implant manufacturer from what they are copying!

FACT : Implant manufacturers are introducing new designs into the market with false claims

To keep up with new implant manufacturers that are having better overall success rates, some companies will copy a certain portion of the competitor's implant and claim that results are similar with the newly added portion. Conceptually this makes sense, but in most cases a combination of design features are responsible for some implant manufacturers' improved success rates. By introducing a concept that has shown to improve success rates in another implant system (albeit with little or no clinical documentation), implant manufacturers can not retain their current current clientele, and therefore doctors need not worry about having to purchase another implant system.

FACT : Clone companies consistently falter and lose market share, resulting in withdrawal from the market place.

Dental implants are metals, and metals fatigue. A good number of implant manufacturers that have cloned other systems with adequate clinical documentation have gone bankrupt and as a result, can no longer offer their product to the dental profession. In many cases when components for these implant systems fail, it is very difficult or nearly impossible to purchase replacement parts. This could leave the patient who has had a cloned implant placed in their jaw with the unfavorable circumstance of not being able to have it restored.

FACT : The US FDA does not require dental professionals to inform their patients of the type of dental implant being placed.

There are more than 90 dental implant manufacturers currently competitive for market share in the United States; within these 90 or so implant manufacturers, more than 340 different implant designs are available !!!! Unfortunately, this number is growing, and in the next 10-20 years when implant components are needed, it will be very difficult for dentists to discern the type of implant that has been placed.

What can you do to avoid these issues?

First and foremost ….

1. Do some research on the practitioner who is recommending the implant and whether he or she has experience in implant dentistry.

2. Make sure that the individual placing the dental implant has surgical experience from an accredited specialty program or an intensive surgical course with proper training.

3. Prior to having the implant placed, consult with a general dentist or prosthodontist so that the implant tooth can be properly designed and extremely, properly restored.

4. At your initial surgical consultation visit, ask your dentist the type of dental implant he or she uses. Ask about how much research has been completed on that specific type of implant and it's success and survival rates.

5. Finally, speak to your doctor at length and inquire as to the type of implant being placed and his or her reason for recommending that type of implant.

Gingivitis refers to an ailment in the gums. It basically reflects to the inflammation in the gums, causing the gums to become tender and swollen. In such a condition, the gums have a tendency of bleeding very easily even while brushing the teeth.

Gingivitis is generally caused due to plaque or food particles becoming ensnared between the gums and the teeth. The resultant bacterium causes the gums to get inflamed. If this condition is not appreciated on time, it could certainly lead to severe dental damage.

Gingivitis is a type of periodontal disease, which involves inflammation and inflammation of the gum that damages the tissues supporting the teeth, including the tooth sockets or the alveolar bone, periodontal ligaments and the gums.

Long-term effects of deposits of plaque in the teeth are one of the major reasons for causing gingivitis. Plaque refers to the sticky material in the teeth that is made up of mucus, food debris and bacteria, which develops over the unclarified portions of one's teeth. Plaque is the basic reason for tooth decay, if you do not remove it on a regular basis, and it forms into a stiff deposit known as tartar, which gets trapped in the base of your teeth. Both tartar and plaque inflame and irritate the gums. The toxins and bacteria produced by them causes your gums to become tender, infected and swollen.

Apart from these, injury or damage to your gums in any form, including forceful brushing or flossing of the teeth may result in gingivitis.

There are a number of factors that can increase your risk of developing gingivitis such as:

– Bad dental hygiene
– General illness
– Pregnancy as changes in hormones could raise sensitivity of your gums.
– Uncontrolled diabetes

Prevention is the only way out

Preventing this condition from taking place is the best cure. It is something that could easily be avoided with a little bit of effort from your part. This involves the following:

– Good and regular oral hygiene is the most essential and the basic step towards preventing the disease. This is so because maintaining cleanliness of your teeth would remove the plaque and would not let it deposit at the base.

– You should at least brush your teeth twice a day and make sure that you gently floss them once everyday.

– For those who are susceptible to the disease are advised to floss as well as brush their teeth after each meal and also before going to bed.

– Special tools and appliances such as toothpicks, electric toothbrushes, water irrigation and other such devices are recommended by the dentists in particular for those who have a tendency of getting plaque deposited in their teeth.

– Anti-tartar and anti-plaque toothpastes along with mouth rinses also recommended by the dentists in sever cases.

All the above things are extremely important for your perfect dental hygiene. If the ailment becomes serious then you must visit your dentist before it is too late.

Each semester millions of people attend classes at a local or online college. All students know that textbooks, lectures, and projects will become part of their daily lives. Most wonder what they can do to be as successful as possible in their courses and make the road to a degree as easy as possible. The following are a few recommendations to help any student do well:

Know what works for you. Before you enter the classroom know what you are going to have to do to achieve your best in that class. Understand where your strengths are and find help for your weakest areas.

Know how you learn best . Are you a visual learner? Do you have to physically write-down notes or are you okay with typing them or, perhaps, just listening to the lecture?

Know how to study . Use the study methods that are best suited for you. Give yourself adequate time to review material. Do not form a study group with anyone if the time will not be used productively.

Know what your resources are . All campuses have some form of academic help. Utilize tutors, libraries, databases, organizations, and professors' office hours when you need them.

Be prepared. Preparation is an element of success in almost anything. Image is no different. Just showing up to class is not enough.

Keep a calendar of assignment due dates. With everything there is to get done, it can be hard to remember when things are due. Create a calendar to stay on top of due dates and make sure that you are managing your time wisely.

Get started on assignments and projects early. Oftentimes, projects and assignments will require more time than initially expected; completing the work as soon as possible allows you to dedicate the appropriate time to the task and do a better job.

Become familiar test material ahead of time. Focus foremost on the information you are certain will be on the test (or quiz). From there, concentrate on important topics / main points and items of discussion highlighted in class lectures.

Actually READ the chapters of the textbook. While most of the text is similar to lectures, reading the book ahead of class will allow you to follow the discussion more easily and understand what is going on.

Be willing to put in the extra work. No one ever attended college because they thought it would be easy. You have to study many hours and collaborate on group work to have a successful college career.

Ask questions. If you do not understand something, ask the professor or peers, most are more than willing to help.

Do not skip any assignments. Avoid the temptation to 'just take a zero' for one or two small assignments. You do not want to be kicking yourself at the end of the semester because you are.01 away from a higher letter grade (or even passing the class), which could have been locked-in with that one extra grade.

Come to class, even if you would rather be elsewhere. The professor is not there to lecture for no reason. What they have to say will help to understand and reinforce the material, which will show when it comes to exam time.

Take advantage of extra credit opportunities . If your grade is wavering, just as with skipping assignments, those extra points can 'make or break you' at the end of the semester. It would be rough retaking a class knowing there was something you could have done to pass it the first time around.

Adapt to each class. Every class is run a little bit differently. Be aware of what the professor expects from you and how work is to be presented. Each class may require different study methods or time dedication. Identify these differences and tailor your habits to match.

By utilizing these recommendations, college students will find that they have better success at achieving the expectations that they set for themselves in regard to their coursework.

From a financial point of view, provides more opportunity savings for you as health insurances usually sum up in a big expenditure involving both medical and dental services. Though the cost for dental cleaning is always high, a separate dental care in itself will ensure proper savings for you hence, the discount.

Dental insurance plans

Whenever buying a plan, be aware of the insurance plan. An insurance can be anywhere between 3 months to 3 years in an insurance plan respectively. To ensure that the customer does not resign after a major dental procedure, are introduced in order to efficiently manage clients and discourage them from resigning.

Direct reimbursement plans

This is the most expensive plan from the dental insurances. Dental Insurance is not a feature of this plan and the insured person has to pay directly to the dentist from whom services were rendered. Employee employer is a prevalent feature of this plan as the customer has to provide the bill to be reimbursed with the part of the expenditure or the whole amount of the expense for which services was rendered. Being the only plan that covers your pre-existing problems, it is an expensive plan based on employment.

Dental discount plans

A type of discount most suitable for senior citizens, dental discount plans also has no waiting period. It is not employment based and is usually cost effective letting its members save around 60% in procedures like fillings, cleaning, bracings and check ups. A collective group is formed letting a new individual become part of the group with nominal fees. Hence, these are much cheaper compare to dental insurance.

Dental plans with a waiting period

For an individual person with basic preventive procedures like cleaning, is not needed while managing planned care like group have a waiting period as it is the cheapest. While procedures like general cleaning service and radiographics have no waiting period, bigger procedures like general anesthesia and oral surgery have a waiting period of 12 months. To make the matter clear about the waiting period, the waiting period is inversely proportional to the condition for the procedure.
